"Stella"

Hydrodamalis gigas
25" (1/12 scale) Steller sea cow. Extinct c. 1768.
Artist: William Monteleone

Hunted to extinction in the 1700's, the Steller's sea cow was a relative of manatees and dugongs. Far larger than their cousins, they grew to 25 ft. in length. Florida manatees by comparison are only about 10 ft. long.

This 1/12 scale resin sculpture was originally created as a custom piece for the Potomac Museum group for an exhibit on the evolution of manatees.
